AL-05: Mitchell Howie is in
Attorney Mitchell Howie has decided to make it official and run for the AL-05 congressional seat as a Democrat. Below is an excerpt from an email he just sent out:
As many of you know I have been looking at a run for congress over the past month. Over the past couple of days I have been in DC for the Winter DNC meeting. I met a lot of representatives, party leaders and activists and received a lot of support, enocouragement [sic] and investments in my run. Chairman/Governor Kaine and Representative Wasserman-Schulz met me and both mentioned my candidacy during their speeches at individual caucuses as a show of their support. As such, after deep consideration and talking with many local leaders and activists, I have decided to run and win the 5th district seat to represent the good folks of Northern Alabama!
…
Below is an article from the Huntsville Times [this article] relating to Parker Griffith’s (our current freshman congressman) switch to the Republican party. You will notice a sentence devoted to my potential candidacy at the end of the article under democratic challengers. You will also notice mention of Steve Raby who is essentially the establishment candidate for the dems [sic] right now. I have been in contact with Steve Raby and have asked him to support my candidacy. I truly believe that with your help in raising funds, I can convince him along with the rest of the political establishment I am the right candidate for the 5th district right now!
…
Accordingly, the establishment support will flow and will allow me to continue to raise money during the primary with an eye towards the general. The conventional wisdom here says Parker Griffith does not even make it out of the Republican primary. I think he will but I think he will be bloodied from a rough primary and he will be easily beatable with the coalition I am putting together and the anti-incumbency mood across the country and in Northern Alabama!

Mitch who?
Wow! The comment about Raby supporting Howie – pretty aggressive. Love that the dems will now be bashing each other too. As a moderate who loves politics, this is going to be the best AL05 race in a long time, and the last one wasn’t too shaby.
I’m sure Raby got a good chuckle out of that line. Mitchell Howie makes me think of “Leave it to Beaver “
Did he say anti-incumbency? Anti-socialism/democrat would be more accurate. Though, I can understand why a D would have a hard time raising money if he/she was so honest.
