Here is a press release from the North Alabama Peace Network:

North Alabama Peace Network says … It’s Obama’s War Now!

(Huntsville, Alabama — Sat. Nov. 14, 2009)    Today’s North Alabama Peace Network rally focused on the fact that while President Obama inherited a bad situation, he has not pulled troops out of Iraq and has expanded the war in Afghanistan. He’s even considering sending additional troops to Afghanistan in the coming weeks. And, Pakistan has become another war front.

These are President Obama’s wars now. He owns them, over one year after winning the presidency. Alabama peace activists demand that President Obama bring our brave soldiers home now!

Here is a picture of the eight people (nine counting the photographer) who attended the “rally.”

I will say it is refreshing to see them turn their frustration, however meekly it is currently being displayed, to President Obama. He knew full well what foreign wars the U.S. was engaged in when he began running for office over two years ago.  He can’t lay the blame at the feet of his predecessor forever, although I think he will continue trying to do so.

And just for fun, here is my favorite picture from the NAPN website:

Of course it’s the President’s war now.

He has taken command of the Afghan war decision making process and has sent the military planners back to the drawing board.

McChrystal’s recommendations are coming under particular scrutiny and pushback as it becomes clear that McChrystal is just another of Bush’s political generals.

What a motley assortment of losers.

Brian — Unless I am very mistaken, the old coot with the beard is none other than John Ehinger, former editorial page editor at The Huntsville Times. Explains a lot, doesn’t it?

      Funny, but you are mistaken.

Are you sure? I swear it looks just like him. His wife is a member of NAPN, so it would make sense for him to become more involved in the group (and grow out his beard) now that he’s retired.

Do you know for a fact who that guy is?

Yes, his name was included in the press release. There were other pictures as well. Not John.

OMG. The only thing missing is the guy with the “who farted” hat.

Obama’s wars now for sure – not just one, now two… perhaps three and four in the future.

@Eddie, could easily be. Obama isn’t immune to the “building empires” bug. He even campaigned on continuing one of Bush’s wars.

Obama has had 9 months to develop a strategy for the Afghan War and even announced his strategy in March. He was too busy with his travelling apology tour and arranging payback for cronies to bother meeting with Afghan commanders until it was reported in the press. The only enemy Obama is willing to fight is capitalism…

@Reactionary, if you’re hoping for a President who’ll do something fast and stupid, you should have elected McCain.

It took Little Georgie Bush 8 years of inattention and failure to get us where we are now in Afghanistan. Send your complaints about hurrying up back to him in your time machine.

And if you want a POTUS who would lick the boots of Mao, you’ve got him.

      Oba-mao!

McCain was right about the Surge in Iraq – he’s right about surging in Afghanistan.

I encourage all Republicans and their allies to stand behind the Bush/McCain foreign policy of stomping their little feet and making the Yellow Elephants feel like manly men.
