Stubborn: Riley will sign $13 million no-bid contract

According to AL.com Gov. Riley will sign a $13 million no-bid contract with Paragon Source.

I just don’t understand this.  The contract seems quite fishy.  However, as of yet no one has exposed any evidence of impropriety.  Riley and co. haven’t exactly given a full throated defense of the selection of Paragon.  Seems like it would be pretty easy to provide some justification as to why they will provide a good value for the state if that is the case.

Maybe it’s because they’re smoking pot in Montgomery since they know that Our Dear Leader won’t prosecute them now.

Yeah, I don’t get it, either. I would be willing to bet there is nothing improper going on since all the attention this is getting would make such a move both certifiable and suicidal. Riley has been a standup guy, so I don’t understand why he would want to sully his reputation with something that looks this fishy and hand the Democrats an easy cudgel like this. Makes no sense.

Good thing is that we may see some bipartisan, “can you top this” ethics legislation. Bad thing is that it will be meaningless.

If the Democrats are smart they will introduce and pass some meaningful ethics reform this session to take the issue away from the Republicans (of course a little more ethics in state government would be a good thing in and of itself)

      If the Democrats are smart

That’s like saying “if Obama told the truth…” It ain’t gonna happen.

If the Democrats were smart, they might want to look at some of Rep. Mitchell’s (D-103) pre-filed bills instead of letting them die in committee as they have been doing. Of course, they will die in the last day because of Republican obstructionism, or thats what the tale will be.

Humpphh… be hilarious if Riley or the Democrats were to say, “hey, y’all in agreement on ethics? Good, lets have a special session.”
