This guy has a bright future as a Birmingham Democrat
“My campaign is not based on a foundation of lies… It’s just the information I provided to the people is false.”
That’s how Antwon Womack defended his decision to continue running for the Birmingham Board of Education after the Birmingham News reported “that he lied about his age, education and residence while campaigning”.
The Birmingham News wrote “Candidate Antwon Womack says he will stay in race despite falsified biography”, which describes Womack’s campaign of deceit. The comments are fascinating, and provide even more context to his story.
Womack applied for a “scholarship” to the Democracy for America (formerly Dean for America) ‘Nutroots Nation’ National Convention, claiming to be “Dr. Antwon B. Womack” in his application (excerpts below):
I have been apart of the Alabama Governemt for more then 8yrs. I have have the opporunity to be Chair of many organization throught out the State of Alabama, I have also been Campaign Chair for more then 3 campaigns in the last 2yrs. I am currenlty the State Director of Youth Affairs for the Alabama Young Democrats, Fmr.Youth City Council President of the City of Birmingham
And this is what Womack envisions as his future:
I see my self if not elected as a School Board member, I see myself running for State Senate of Alabama and finishing up my carrer for life
Lying Democrat in training…

Here’s a post from The Caputo Report, “Birmingham School Board Candidate Lies about Bio, Vows to Continue Campaign”:
…the reputation of our city and our region have been severely tarnished because of the ethical lapses of a long (and regrettably growing) line of local elected officials. Simply put, if Birmingham is to succeed, Birmingham cannot tolerate any more ethically challenged politicians.
Pascal Caputo is a good source of information from Birmingham and Jefferson County – I should add that his Facebook post alerted me to this story.
MORE:
James Butts of the Alabama Young Democrats commented that “Antwon Womack is not now, nor has he ever been, associated with the Alabama Young Democrats”. So Womack fabricated that part of his biography too.
For those Democrats who get upset that I harsh on your party for public corruption – how many Democrats pleaded guilty just this week? Within the last month? This year? How much have Democrats stolen from education or public works? How many were leading Democratic Party officials (Bill Blount was former Party Chairman, Roy Johnson was former Speaker Pro Tem of the State House, and Governor Don Siegelman)?
And then we’ve got those who are just a little bit unethical – voting other legislator’s machines, double-dipping, and goodness knows what else.
Instead of complaining about my comments, how about voting for honest and ethical candidates for a change.
Well, this is Birmingham we’re talking about. He’ll probably win.
Tell this cat to get a spell checker.
Priceless.
“Dr.” Womack wants to be on the school board, but he doesn’t seem to know how to use spaces (e.g., “2yrs.”) and apparently isn’t sure that “myself” is actually one word.
What a loser.
He be po at grammah too. If this had been a junior high paper, he would have failed on just the mistakes in the three sentences quoted. Good grief!
I agree that someone embellishing their resume for a local office is a tragedy. However, you are inaccurate with your reporting. DFA is one of several participating sponsors of Netroots Nation. Secondly, Womack did not win a scholarship. He simply applied for a scholarship and was not chosen.
Reactionary, shame on you for not knowing the finer points of who sponsors the “Netroots Nation” (formerly Yearly Kos). And of course such a distinguished organization would not grant a scholarship to a charlatan like Womack.
I do like how a “progressive” describes this as a case of “embellishment.” I bet a box of donuts that if it were a Republican then it would have been called “lying.”
Looks like a candidate for the Larry Langford, school of politics.
He probably is a community organizer for Acorn to.
“Student record databases at Alabama A&M show Womack was never a student at the university.” – I’m really surprised that the “Hill” didn’t claim him, just for the name recognition for the school in the media.
Cut from the same mold as Sue Schmidt. He will go far.
Progressive E – thank you. I changed the text from “received” to “applied for”.
I note that you didn’t say that my description of the convention as “Nutroots” was “inaccurate”…
Sounds like he’s more Council material, rather than School Board. If the had an arrest record maybe he could recieve an appointment.
Everytime I hear a story like that about Birmingham or when Im in Birmingham doing something. Im always reminded of a story an ex girlfriend of mine used to tell about her grandmother. She said they were checking into a hotel there in Sacramento the night before Schwartzenegger was going to be sworn in as Governor. She said the hotel lobby was crowded with politicians and media celebs like Wolf Blitzer and Geraldo and even some Hollywood celebs. She said the California automobile dealers were also there having their yearly convention and the USC law school dean and his students were checking in when they arrived. She said she was standing in line waiting to check in and all at once she heard her grandmother yell out lord have mercy. She looked around and saw her grandmother running out the front door. She went outside to see what was wrong and her grandmother looked at her and said get me my bible sweetie. She said she looked at her and said grandma what in the world is wrong. She said her grandmother looked at her with the most sincere look and said. Sweetie I was sitting in there and all at once I had this horrible feeling come over me. I felt like I had died and went straight to hell.
Should we not be surprised? He is taking a cue from BO’s unabashed lying. All libs must think this is a normal thing to do now…given that people were foolish enough to believe BO. Why wouldn’t they believe Womack or even care that he lies?
Classifying the convention as “nutroots” is obviously an attempt at humor. Not any more fitting than calling the Right Online conference ‘The Wrong Online” conference where the right-wing hero Joe the Plumber expressed that he would beat the living tar out of House Speaker Pelosi.
She has no tar left, it’s been sucked out her and replaced with Botox. What a freaking shrill hag! Fitting that she hails from SF.
For the record, Antwon Womack is not now, nor has he ever been, associated with the Alabama Young Democrats. The position that he claims to hold in our organization, Director for Youth Affairs, as never existed. All such claims on his part are complete fabrications and insult the great work our members do to increase youth involvement in the political process. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

I’ve weighed in on this at the Progressive Electorate
Pro E, let’s put it this way – he didn’t claim to be a Republican, did he?
BTW, I’m personally all for consistency in dismissing unethical, corrupt, crazy, etc. members of both major parties. I’m not sure you’re the best authority to be lecturing on that topic, though.
Here’s video from Womack’s press conference. Worth watching.
“I made a mistake. I don’t want to be scrutinized for it. After this day I don’t want to hear about this no more.” Good luck with that!
On some level you have to admire the fact that he just flat out intentionally lied to get attention. No shame at all. I like how he used air quotes when he said he didn’t have the “education” that people looked for. He actually thought he could get away with it. He reiterated that he doesn’t want to be “scrutinated.”
Womack is a perfect fit for Birmingham.
Should point out that Womack received a grand total of four votes when he ran for mayor of Tarrant.
This is the problem in this state with Democrats…
They refuse to look in house and criticize. If this was a Republican candidate, I have no doubt that this blog would be criticizing him as well and any GOP hacks who took up for him. The AL Democratic Party has worked repeatedly to thwart any real ethics reform in this state and it’s hilarious that some would whine about conservative bloggers picking the low hanging fruit.
