Phil Williams wins HD-6 GOP nomination
With 23 of 24 precincts reporting (I believe absentees are the 24th) Phil Williams appears to have wrapped up the Republican nomination in the HD-6 special election. He currently has 52% of the votes, which is enough to avoid a run off with one of his opponents. Jenny Askins won the Democrat race.
Only a total of 2,376 votes cast. Over 2 out of 3 (68%) went to a Republican. Williams got more votes (838) than all three Democrats combined (760). Certainly bodes well for the Republicans. I think Williams has to be the strong favorite. The Democrats nominated a party loyalist whose credentials tend to involve partisan party activities, whereas Williams has distinguished himself as a successful businessman.
That seems a very low turnout even for a special election primary. Other than being the day after a long weekend, did any other factors keep the turnout low?
Congrats Phil!
Huge win for the GOP again.
Yeah, but Askins has one thing Williams can’t match… She’s HOT!

Oh, and please do note at the end of that video where Stephen Black — Director of the University of Alabama Initiative for Ethics and Social Responsibility (i.e., he’s a state-employed professional left-wing political activist) — informs us that Askins deserves our support because women are better legislators than men since they are smarter, more open to compromise, less puerile, and love their kids more.
No, really.
Now I just want to work even harder to get Williams elected.
she is pretty attractive. you usually have the rosie o’donnell types on the democrat side. on a statewide level though. the gop has to have this seat and that senate seat in 2 weeks if they wont any shot at taking just one chamber next year.
The reason there is low turnout is the non-existent Democrat machine.
But there may be a reason…

Our polling also consistently showed this district had swung heavily Republican, something I first reported three years ago when I said I would be shocked if a Democrat ever won this district again once Sue Schmitz left.
Jack, That sounds like Sotomayor..
“Initiative for Ethics and Social Responsibility” I think I understand what ethics is, but I’d love to hear Mr. Black describe “social responsibility.”
Her assertion that it doesn’t matter what she believes or what her ideas are for making the district a better place, “it is about the people is an easy out,” and one that flies in the face of the purpose of an election: purpose is to elect that person that is most in line with your beliefs and that you feel is capable, based on common beliefs/values/priorities. That person, by way of your vote, is then given permission to make decisions on your behalf. If she’s gonna poll the district everytime there is a tough decision, she may be incredibly popular, but she’ll be highly ineffective. Guess it is a catch 22.
Great job Phil- Good start for Right On Huntsville endorsements
Wayne — Yep, sure does. See, if women ran the world, there would be no more wars and everyone would live in peace and harmony. After all, we all know that women at work never engage in bitchy catfights over trivial crap. No siree.
Wayne,
You had me scared there for a minute. When you wrote, “Jack, That sounds like Sotomayor,” I thought you were saying that Sotomayor is hot.
I was thinking: Wow, Wayne must be a “butt man.”
Sotomayor looks like Roseanne
