Bradley Byrne – the Colin Powell of Alabama politics. The man id’ed by his own wife as a “moderate.” He’ll represent the McCain/Powell branch of “move to the center” Republicanism in Alabama. It is likely that the Goldwater/Reagan Right Wingers will unite behind Tim James, for a battle in Alabama that mirrors the current national struggle for the heart and soul of the GOP. Should be one of the most watched GOP races in the nation.

If you go to Byrne’s visit to Huntsville and have an opportunity to ask him a question I’d appreciate it if you ask him if he’s familiar with Representative Mike Ball’s constitutional amendment (it was HB 279 in the just concluded legislative session) which, if enacted into law, would make Alabama the 25th state to have an Initiative and Referendum process for its citizens, and whether he will publicly support Ball’s bill if elected to the office of governor.

Who knows…..Representative Ball may very well be there as well.

Byrne is all that is wrong with the GOP post Reagan. He’s an Alabama McCain – all moderate.

It’s obvious that there’s a political strategy to place the “moderate” label on Bradley Byrne. It doesn’t matter that he was a Dem in 1994. He’s been a loyal Republican for a while & has a track record. It’s a long way ’till 2010. We need to study all the candidates and decide. If Bradley’s a “moderate”, then I guess I am, too.

Mike, the person who put the “moderate” label on Bradley was his own wife in a Mobile Press Register story last year. She said he’s a moderate. In an interview. Published.
