Reminder: Huntsville Tea Party on Wednesday
Just a reminder…
The Huntsville Tax Day Tea Party will be this Wednesday at Noon across from the post office on Clinton Ave (for most of you). We’ve got you covered if you’re looking for slogan or sign ideas. Also, both Reactionary and I will be on WVNN’s morning Tea Party show with Dale Jackson. Update: I will be on at 6 am and Reactionary will be on at 7 am.
I’ll admit I’m not much for protests. I personally don’t like holding signs or chanting, but my real reservation lies with the nuts who attend protests. You know who I’m talking about. It only takes a couple and all of a sudden everyone there is deemed a kook by unfortunate association. So, if you think Barack Obama is not a U.S. citizen or that 9/11 was an inside job or if you carry a confederate flag the organizers of the Huntsville Tea Party have made special accommodations for you. Your tea party will begin promptly at 2:30. Same location, but you get a different time slot so the rest of us don’t interfere with you.
Hopefully the noon protest will focus on the general tax and spend mentality that tightly grips Washington.

$5 says that any news media covering the protest will skip right past people like us and record interviews with the birth certificate truthers.

Just for the sake of argument – explain
Suspect you’ll also see mention of “camouflage uniforms”, the whitebread nature of the crowd and the presence of veterans.
And its just not tax and spend in DC that needs worrying about.
Jonathon, reading is fundamental and I dare say any of bloggers of these infantile points of view above have actually read the US Constitution. But just in case — your pigment is blockading your brain waves (or maybe your wannabe pigment….) try listening to one of your own…

We The People – my question was why those people are included in the list of nuts who attend protests; however, you have adequately answered for him. Thank you.
I’m sure everyone who knows me is quite amused by your description. You may be surprised to know I am, in fact, functionally literate and have read the US Constitution on multiple occassions.
Give me one compelling reason why any legitimate news outlet – be it Fox News or the NY Times – would sit on evidence that the POTUS is not a legal US citizen. Scandal sells and that story would rock the world. Like it or not, Obama is an American born citizen.
“We The People” – needlessly interjecting race into the discussion does you no favors. Especially when your assessment of the individual’s race you are referring to is incorrect.
One compelling argument – could you imagine the ramifications of that discovery? Rocking the world and potentially destroying it – two different goals. Also, the short-term gain would most likely be offset by long-term blackballing. Are you suggesting the media would never ignore a potential scandal?
Now, give me one compelling argument for the question not being settled once and for all with the release of the birth certificate (to neutral third party).
Let me make clear – if the birth certificate were to be released, I would fully expect to discover he is a natural born citizen. However, why not just release it and be done with it - there would still be some who don’t believe it, but you would take any credible argument away.
Precedent was set for that level of public vetting on the issue during McCain’s original run in 2000, so (regardless of whether I think the claim is true) I don’t think it an unreasonable request.
That being said – We The People pretty well proved your point already.
Hope it went well, and I hope none of the nutters showed up to spoil it for you. As much as I’ve giggled over “teabagging” lately, I think everyone’s entitled to their own outlets, and there’s nothing like a nutjob who’ll jump at any opportunity to scream “fire” to completely devalue any point you’re trying to make. Here’s to hoping you got yours across effectively.
On a similar note, I noticed that some of the local Libertarians were outright furious over what they consider to be some on the far-right hijacking their tea parties, as they were protesting both parties beng out of control– something I can very much understand and respect.
What was probably the icing on the cake for the tea parties was when Rick Perry, Texas’ governor stated that Texas can secede from the union. That will draw a lot of attention but more importantly it sends the message that these movements are serious for such strong words to be used. While the media will say they Texas does not have the right to do this outright (there are some court cases which agree, there are certain paths they can take to get this goal).

maneuvers.
Really it is just using the legal system creatively.
Texas probably has the best chance at success. Here is just one way how it can work. The annexation agreement made when Texas joined the union provided that Texas would be able to divide into 5 states. This would create 8 more conservative Senators.
If Texas were to try to divide and be rebuffed, the US would be in violation of the agreement and Texas should be able to go free.
It is not all that far fetched.
Regardless of the TX situation, the movement was larger than expected. And it is just a start because the thing about grass roots is that it will only take hold, grow and spread.
