WVNN cuts Pamela Furr & news staff

2009 February 8
by Brian

Huntsville’s  local talk radio station WVNN has cut nearly all of its staff.  Most obvious is the termination of afternoon host Pamela Furr.  (Kudos to Jeff)  Also gone is the entire news staff.  Rich Herl, Marty Broman, and others – all gone.  The sole survivor at “The Station That Launched The Legend” is morning host and program director Dale Jackson.  The move comes within days of the station being recognized as one of the best talk radio stations in the country.

Going to miss Rich Herl and Marty Broman.  Pamela…not so much.

Agree with Eric’s sentiments, particularly the latter.

Pamela Furr was a pest! But I hate she lost her job.

Pamela I’m really sorry about your getting laid off.  I really enjoyed your show, and I feel bad that they got rid of you, just like that.  I really wish for the best for you!  What are your upcoming plans?   Also, don’t worry about these jerks who say bad stuff about you…they have nothing better to do than sit on the net 18 hrs. a day like losers.

Pamela, I enjoyed your show and will certainly miss hearing you in the afternoons.  More than anything, I hate that there is now only one “local” show on the station.  The national shows are all well and good, but I prefer someone whose show I can actually get through on and who talks at times about local issues.  Best wishes for the future!

Why did they let Pamela go?! That was the only show I could listen to without wanting to break my radio. I am so sorry she is gone. I guess I will be turning the dial. Pamela let us know where you are going.

Pamela, You are missed. I myself have been laid off 5 times. Each time the bean counters did not get it. Mistakes made in each company were redundant. I wish you well, let US know where you end up. We can all listen via internet.

Pam. I have some news for you. Someone at your old work place cannot keep their mouths closed. Seems like your boss, (DJ), made the call to release you. According to a very close inside individual, your show was beginning to gain better ratings than DJ’s, therefore your popularity and DJ’s contract was about to collide, which might have cost DJ his job and WVNN  a lot of money to settle his contract.

Pam…You did a good job on WVNN. I enjoyed your afternoon show and insights into local, state and national politics. I know that you will succeed wherever you land. You will be missed!!!

Awesome post. Not even close to accurate, but awesome.

Nothing personal Pamela but I hated your show. I changed the station whenever you came on. I do recognize you’re a broadcast profession and do hope you find a gig somewhere where you can prosper. Now if some one could shut Dale Jackson up and put some professional broadcaster on that would me not tuning in to some other station until Neal Boortz comes on.

I personally didn’t like the Pamela Furr show. She would twist callers words and cut them off. Not glad for anyone to lose their job but didn’t really care for the show. However, I’d much rather hear her than Mark @ 500

Pamela Furr needs to find another line of work.  I hate for anyone to be out of a job, but she is just not good at radio. I am a true conservative and have been since I was in college.  When I heard her endorse John McCain, soon after she arrived in Huntsville, claiming he was a conservative, and drowning out anyone who dared to disagree with her, I knew she was full of hot air.  Then, when I heard her call Dr. Alan Keyes a “Media Whore”, I knew she was nothing more than a person with an elevated opinion of herself, with nothing of substance to say. Later, she had to audacity to have him on her show.  Her style of getting louder than the callers  who were trying to make a point was her pitiful imitation of Bill O’Reilly. He’s obnoxious when it does it, but she just sounded stupid. It only made her lack of intelligence show more.  Her habit of repeating the same thing over and over again to fill air time was annoying too.  I seldom listened to her because I could always find someone else who was much more interesting,  but I did hear her speak of her disappointment with Senator McCain after he voted for the bailout.  I couldn’t help but laugh.  Finally, she realized he really wasn’t a conservative! What a shock! After all those days of defending him and cutting people off who tried to explain to her that he was not a conservative, she was finally awakened!  I hope she finds another line of work and is very successful in it.  She should try writing her opinions in a book and see if it sells.

Hey sooner or later, but I’ve been doing this for a long, long time.  After 25 years, I don’t think that a change of profession would be wise.  I find it interesting that you I EVER said I was supporting John McCain because he was a conservative.  LOL!!  I never EVER made that statement.  You’ll never find audio of me making that statement.  Bless your heart.. you only hear what you want to hear.

As for Allen Keys — HE IS A MEDIA WHORE!!  I said it and I stand by it.  I also stand by the notion that Obama should kiss him dead square on the mouth.  If it weren’t for Keyes, Obama would NOT be where he is today, and that’s a fact.

WOW — DALE.  I had no idea I was a threat to your “contract.”  You’re so insecure that my “firing” makes perfect sense now.  ;>)   (for those who aren’t following, that’s sarcasm)

    Pam,
Contrary to what you might think, DJ is not an ally.  Stop and think for a minute. Who is the current producer at WVNN? Wh do you think made the decision for you to be relieved of your job. The answer is Dale Jackson!

  17. Boo on March 9, 2009 at 9:15 am permalink

Dale Jackson needs his adenoids removed.  He does not have a voice for radio.

I will miss all who have been fired from WVNN.  I am a long-time listener.   I wish them all the best in the future.

  18. Pamela Furr on March 9, 2009 at 10:30 pm permalink

    Sarah,
Do you mean “Program Director”?  There are no producers on WVNN to my knowledge at this time.  Look, regardless of rumor or truth, the fact is I am no longer hosting a show on WVNN.  But it’s not the end of the world for me and certainly not the end of my career.  I hold no hard feelings toward anyone ANYONE who made the decision to let me go, whether it was malicious or just one of those things.  IT DOESN’T MATTER AT ALL.  It is what it is.  Don’t worry about me.  If you liked me on the air, you’ll hear me again.  If you didn’t.. well, you know where I won’t be in the afternoons at 5pm.  :)

Agree with Boo entirely. And as far as repetition, Pamela has nothing on Dale.  “That’s just ridiculous! That’s just ridiculous! It’s ridiculous!” and “I don’t understand it! I just don’t understand it! Don’t understand it!” or “I have NO doubt. I have no doubt. No doubt at all!” Couple all that sort of thing with statements reminding me that his mother is a teacher and he is educated as a teacher as well, followed by, “I have went,” well, I just wait until 9AM and tune in to Boortz as well.

Pamela – enjoyed your show in Springfield, IL  and if you want to come back we’ll take you in a second.  I think you were very popular here.  Heck, I even followed you and listened to your new show via the internet.  Good luck in the future.

To the Program Manager … DJ:
Regarding staffing issues, might I suggest that the program manager replace himself with, oh I don’t know, Will Anderson. Would make the morning much more pleasant and bring me back to WVNN in the am; forced to turn instead to JB&B after Bill Bennett

    Cheers.

BTW, I thing the program manager only brought Pamela on to make the morning show look good ;^)

Wow, I guess I’m a little behind… Dale Jackson is the guy calling the shots at WVNN? Seriously?! He is a such a dope.
I was disappointed when Will Anderson was replaced, he was by far the best thing at that station since Sean Hannity.
Pamela Furr was okay and all but I definitely enjoy listening to Mark Levin much, much more.

Dale Jackson, if you’re out there and still checking this blog, man you really need to stop repeating yourself so much on the air. You get on a rant and then beat it to death. We got it, move along.

WVNN was correct in the decission to let Furr go. I am eagerly waiting to see how long it takes them to wash thier hands of Jackson. I am looking forward to having someone worth listening to in the morning.

I will miss Pamela Furr’s afternoon show. I liked her spunk! Can’t believe the news team and Marty Broman are gone too! Oh My!! Very sad indeed. I liked them as well.
As for Mr. Jackson. Well, we’ll have to wait and see what happens with his career at WVNN. At least for this coming week, we’ll not hear him on the air.

The people I use to slay the hardest have all been cut loose. The firts time I called in on Pamela Furr she twisted my words and called me racist which is a lie. My wife is a hot oriental woman, I speak Spanish and use to preach at the latino ministry at my church. Even though 90+% of them were illegal, I saw them as humans with eternal souls that will spend eternity in either heaven or hell. I knew from that point she was another worthless “conservative”. I don’t wish her evil but I’m glad she is off WVNN. I use to listen to it religiously but quickly quit listening whenever she was on. She came across as very hateful and hostile to Ron Paul conservatives such as myself. Maybe she can find some fans somewhere in a liberal friendly environment where calling people racist for diagreeing with you is acceptable.

I had no idea she was gone, I stoped listening after she made several negative comments I thought where racial, specially of Hispanics. Mark Levin is definately a better listen.

I just heard this woman for the 1st time this evening. What an IDIOT. She does not listen to what the callers are trying to say, and when they say something she does not like she just talks over them. *** AND *** believe it or not : she actually JUSTIFIED SLAVERY on tonights show!!! get a copy of the show if you don’t believe me.

Good Lord, honey. You went back to a post on a blog almost a year old to write something like this? Yes, please. Get a copy of the show and please please please tell me where I justified slavery. LOL!!! You obviously didn’t have your listening ears on. LOL!! http://www.wbt.com go to the Pete Kaliner page (that’s who I was filling in for) and download tonight’s show. Nite nite all.

I quit listening to Dale Jackson. He got on my nerves. He told callers that he was tired of commenting on a particular subject and told callers not to call in about that topic then he would go on and on about that subject he didn’t want to talk about. I could not take anymore. WVNN can do better for a talk show host than Dale Jackson. I start listening to WVNN when Neal Bortz comes on.

You write me a similar e-mail at least once a month Jerome. And now you are digging up old threads on the internet?

I got you Jerome. You listen everyday and I appreciate it.
