New Year’s Resolutions

2009 January 7
by Reactionary

Among my New Year’s resolutions are to be more frugal, reduce stress and bad things in my life, and post more at Flashpoint.

I hit a three-fer.

I’ve decided to stop subscribing to The Huntsville Times, thereby saving $102 per year (which is the weekend-only subscription price).  There are enough aggravations in life without paying for the aggravation of the crap regularly spewed by the Times.  My sisters made the smart move and cut out the paper long ago.  I had cut back to weekend-only (thinking that’ll show ‘em).  It’s time to move on.

Here’s an example of some of the Times New Year’s Suckiness (from January 1, 2009):

Jon Busdecker wrote in the ‘go’ section “Good-bye 2008. We won’t miss you.  The bad economy.  Political scandals. Sarah Palin.  2009 can’t be any worse.”

Ha, ha, ha. How hilarious.  Laugh now, you tool.  And laugh Deborah Storey, the Editor who left that crap in the article.  This was my last straw – the Times obviously doesn’t want my business or support.  They’ve shown it all too well over the years.  Bias permeates the paper, all the way to the “entertainment” section.

Hey! I’ll also improve my Greeniness by reducing my waste stream and carbon footprint: it’s a four-fer!

I won’t miss you either, Huntsville Times.

Don’t worry, they will not let you miss them for very long.  After I canceled my subscription, I had at least half a dozen phone calls with new special deals because I had been such a loyal reader for a whopping 9 months.

On top of that, it was fundraiser time and I had at least that many poor little kids come by trying to sell me a subscription so they could go to college.

I will admit that I missed ads on sundays.

We need to work on our posting cycles.  When I post less you should post more, and vice versa.  I’ve been without home internet for over a week now.  Once I get the wireless connection back up and running I should be good to go.

You should read today’s editorial to see just what you are missing.  Ehinger is whining that there may be up to six elections this year (SD-7 and possibly Laura Hall’s house seat).  That is the nature of electing new officials.  It requires a primary, possible runoff, and a general election.  I guess it isn’t beyond the imagination for a third party candidate to get on the ballot and force a general election runoff as well.

Pure fluff.  They should have saved some paper today and left out the editorial page.

Palin?  Really?  She has become a caricature of herself. Her windfall profits tax on Alaska oil makes me think the only thing conservative about her is her position on abortion, and that just cant be a litmus test any longer.  The GOP needs more

We also gave up the Times.  Don’t really miss it at all.  I sometimes check AL.com for traffic.
