Personally, not being a Republican, Democrat, or anything other than a “small i independent and a defender of the US Constitution, I couldn’t care less whether the Republican Party rebuilds or goes down the toilet as long as it appears to act (other than rhetorically) as a mirror image of the Democratic Party giving us essentially a one party system.

A one party system leads to a dictatorship.

If we don’t want a dictatorship there needs to be a real option to the one party system.

I think it would behoove all, or as many as possible, of the minor parties to unite into one party that can agree on at least 3 or 4 basic issues such as liberty, personal freedoms, smaller less intrusive government, and less taxation, while putting their other issues on the back burner at least for a while.

Only then will we have a viable, effective, and responsible two party system.

James Taranto thinks that Obama's victory could actually help the GOP court minority voters (and I would presume candidates) in the future. I agree. The Democrats have taken minorities, primarily blacks, for granted. Consequently they (Democrats) have adopted a very paternalistic approach towards them. Obama's victory broke the final glass ceiling and has proven that blacks no longer need a paternalistic party to look out for their interests.

I have to agree to a point with what Johnny is saying here. I found it mildly insulting that what they seem to view as the problem within the GOP is the organization skills in campaigning. My lack of support over the last five years has been due to the party's straying from its original message of conservatism. That's not conservative "values" mind you, but conservative "principles" like small government.

Barry Goldwater was right. This whole desire to appease the religious extreme (and minority) as opposed to focusing on what government leaders are SUPPOSED to be doing is what's killing the GOP. It really does make the Democrats seem to be the conservative party in comparison.

To say that the Republicans just need a more organized drive is just a slap in the face to the many people who feel alienated from the party they grew up with. I have a pretty strong feeling that if there isn't REAL reform from within, the GOP might just be making way for the Libertarians as the next big conservative party within the next decade or two.

Rebuild? How about euthanize it instead. I forced myself to vote for a sometimes closet-leftist put up by the blue-blood wing of the GOP in hopes that it would stave off total DNC control. No more. Never again will I vote for one of these RINOs. Until the GOP RETURNS to its roots, I'm gone. I'll write in Mickey Mouse if I have to in future elections, but I will not be voting for socialist lites. In fact, I'll be looking to support a third pary instead.

So for all of the Karl Rove types who created "compassionate conservativism," wanted us to create a "big tent party," are now saying that we need to make inroads to "moderates and independents," and who are the very reason the GOP is on the outs, be gone.
