John McCain’s Acceptance Speech
Posted by ReactionaryOMG!
I watched John McCain’s speech, and whoever said that he wasn’t comfortable making speeches should’ve watched it too.
Rousing. The speech was absolutely powerful. McCain started well, got into some policy and comparisons, took on both parties for corruption and ineffectiveness, then gave the most rousing finish to a speech I’ve seen since Reagan.
Too bad some Code Pinkholes tried to disrupt the speech.
McCain owns the ‘Maverick’ label. He noted some policy areas where Republican positions are clear winners:
“My health care plan will make it easier for more Americans to find and keep good health care insurance. His plan will force small businesses to cut jobs, reduce wages, and force families into a government run health care system where a bureaucrat stands between you and your doctor.” I’ll add the details: McCain wants to make health insurance portable - make it like life insurance or car insurance where an individual chooses the best plan from competing companies, rather than the current system of having health insurance provided by employers, or worse - the Democrat plan for universal single Government payer Socialist health care.
“Education is the civil rights issue of this century”; “Senator Obama wants our schools to answer to unions and entrenched bureaucracies. I want schools to answer to parents and students. And when I’m President, they will.” This is an area where Democrats fail their black constituency - ask a black parent about “No Child Left Behind” transfers out of failing schools and chances are you’ll get a positive response - however, crediting George Bush might be going too far…
Cut taxes… Drill for more oil, nuclear power, all of the above… Victory in Iraq, Russian invasion of Georgia… Me and everyone getting weepy for McCain’s POW story, then BAM!
Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We’re Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.
BTW, the FoxNews camera settled twice on local delegate Dr. Dean Brandon, who was featured in the Huntsville Times a few days ago. Dr. Brandon (and his partners) run the best pediatric dentistry office in town. He’s a super guy IRL.

It was a very fine speech and well delivered. It was full of optimism and adoration for this country and all it represents. Quite a contrast from the Democrat’s narrative about how terrible the country is and only Obama can pull us from the mire. His demonstration of respect towards Obama makes him look like the bigger, more mature candidate.
I think those “Code Pinkholes” do more harm to their cause than good. They simply look like disrespectful children, hooligans.

While I will never vote for Obama, the only way that I could vote for McCain would be to hold my nose while pulling the lever. Why? Well, for example, check out the details on his healthcare plan. The fact is that his plan raises taxes on those who already get their healthcare insurance from employers because the $5000 credit per year won’t = the TOTAL pre-tax premiums paid by the employee and employer.

Interesting quote”
“Sarah Palin may actually be worse than her superannuated running-mate. No one has shown any substantial policy differences between the two of them. But whereas McCain is cranky, stale, and cadaverous, Palin puts a sweet seductive smile on executive aggrandizement and perpetual war. She’s a spoonful of sugar to mask the bitter taste of strychnine. But, make no mistake, that’s what a John McCain presidency will be – lethal poison for what’s left of our republic.

So, Wayne, when do the boys in Afghanistan come home or is it more important to keep killing Afghan’s and invading Pakistan (have we always been at war with Pakistan?) to get elected and re-elected? Perpetual war is being played by both sides.
Re: the speech, so far have avoided selling any of them, both D and R, parade worthiness != trench performance.

Walt, the boys (aka known as all volunteer military) in Afghanistan don’t come home until the terrorist leadership holed up there and in Pakistan is decimated. The simple fact is that Pakistan’s ISI has many double agents working to support and warn the Taliban of any forthcoming raids. It’s about time that our forces took the issue in hand and took care of business. As for perpetual war, once the Muslim fanatics are content to leave their fellow man alone, then and only then might perpetual war be avoided - but I doubt it.

Johnny Reb, you have more or less described the Obama plan, which because he is the progressive candidate du jour, he can not be a militarist bent on using a state of perpetual war (you did read Orwell in HS?) to win elections and grasp power.
Back to the speech, did read the transcripts of both McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden, I think each party should have their candidates switch positions.

Walt, The quote was from a libertarian who is not an Obama supporter. I don’t think Obabma will do anything vastly different than McCain.

Brian and Reactionary, Just so you know, we feel your pain with the “Code Pink” people. They annoyed us just as much in Denver and also got kicked out of the Netroots Nation convention in Austin for being obnoxious and disruptive. I still don’t know what their objective is - other and obnoxious and disruptive - but I do wonder. How the heck did they get inside for McCain’s speech?
I was in Denver and security was tighter than my daddy’s wallet when I was in high school. I wondered how protesters got through security in St. Paul. Pretty scary, actually.

Walt, Yes Obama did say that about Pakistan. However, he’s a Johnny Come Lately on that foreign policy opinion. He was wrong about Iraq, is wrong about negotiating with Iran, and is wrong about domestic policies. The only thing that he’s been correct on is finally admitting that the Irag troop surge worked and that he would, as if we had not already been doing so covertly, send troops into Pakistan.
McCain is also wrong on many issues. He is a globalist thru and thru. In fact, he and Obama are headed to the same destination - a socialist USA. But Obama is on the fast track and McCain is on the scenic tour.
I want to vote for Chuck Baldwin - a true Constitutionalist, but doing so may allow Obama to squeak into office. That is precisely the thought process that McCain used in selecting Palin (although I agree she’s a great choice) as his running mate. McCain knew that he didn’t have a snowball’s chance if he couldn’t hoodwink the base into voting for him. I’m not kidding myself - that’s exactly what he’s done. Heck, he even got James Dobson of Focus on the Family who said, “Speaking as a private individual, I would not vote for John McCain under any circumstances,” to now say, “I would pull that lever (for McCain and Palin).” I don’t like McCain’s globalist positions, I don’t like the fact that he’s a career pol, I don’t like his past involvement with scandals, etc., but I just may vote for him. Why? Primarily becasue of the hatchet job the left wing media has unleashed on Palin. If they hate her so much, there must be something good that she (not McCain) can do for this nation. So if I vote for McCain, it will be more of a “Hey MSM, stuff this vote where the sun don’t shine” vote rather than a vote for McCain.
BTW, I really HATE the MSM! I can’t believe that none of these candidates ever have the cajones to call them on the carpet. Just once I’d love to see a candidate get asked some out of bounds question by some smarmy metrosexual and the candidate, preferably Sarah Palin, respond with a right hook to the jaw - on live TV!

CountryCat - AFAIK so far it’s just rumors. I’ve seen speculation that Code Pink got in because: they conned them from the delegates or they got them from MSNBC. Since there were several protestors, both could be true.
Code Pink boasted that they had disrupted Palin’s speech by getting passes from disaffected anti-war GOPers (i.e., Ron Paul delegates). Here’s a roundup:
http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/09/code-pink-stole-delegates-identity-to.html
Code Pink’s objective is peace and social justice, just like the workers enjoy in the the Socialist People’s Paradise of Cuba.
They get money from the Tides Foundation (run by a guy who is an SEIU leader and the founder of ACORN - the ‘community organizing’ group with whom Obama worked) and the Streisand Foundation (Barbra).

Daily Kos, screw him…
I can’t express to you how much disgust I have for Kos…

Hey, what can I say. There were cameras all over our delegation. Thank you for the compliment–Our delegation was certainly the most photographed and televised there. I think John McCain has been reinvigorated by the reaction to the Sarah Palin selection. I was pleasantly surprised that McCain matched the previous night’s great speeches. I mean it was absolutely electric for SP’s speech Wednesday evening. BTW, the code pink disruption was no big deal there–just gave us a chance to chant “USA”!

Oh, McCain’s speech had an inspiring conclusion:
–”Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.
Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We’re Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history”.–
