Headline from the Huntsville Times: Board tells Fowler to sell a tax increase
Among Dr. Dee Fowler’s goals for the 2008-2009 school year is to rehash an old topic: Getting more money for Madison schools.
The Madison board of education approved the superintendent’s goal Thursday, which calls on Fowler to make a better case for a tax increase.
At a recent board work session, board members and Fowler agreed more money is needed to support the school system, which is growing rapidly.
If they spent half as much time trying to figure out how to live within their means as they do trying to figure out how best to extort money from us they might find that the no longer “need” the additional money.
I hope to live to see the day when a government run school system says, “You know what, we have all that we need. In fact, we have too much. Why don’t you cut our budget and lower taxes for those hard working citizens.” I also hope to see us achieve world peace and I want to own one of those food replicators from Star Trek.
