From AL.com:

Citing the controversy over the sale and moving of the Downtown Rescue Mission, City Councilman Glenn Watson said tonight he would not seek re-election to the District 5 seat he has held for 12 years.

Watson, who is running for Madison County Commission as a Republican, said he won’t run again for the city post, even if he doesn’t win the commission race.

Very interesting. Watson is running for Madison County Commission, District Two against two other Republicans. The primary is June 3rd and the winner will be the de facto winner of the general election since there is no Democrat competition. If Watson didn’t prevail he would easily be able to organize and mount a credible re-election campaign for the council seat.

Qualifying for Huntsville city elections begins on July 1st and ends on July 15th. This should become another fun race to watch.
