WAAY is reporting substantial allegations of corruption within the North Precinct of the Huntsville Police Department. According to “multiple sources” the allegations include “planting drugs inside suspects’ vehicles.” You know the defense lawyers are going to love this.

WAAY’s sources also say that a supervisor was notified about the alleged wrongdoing, but did nothing. They also claim that a gun with the serial number filed off was recovered.

No other news outlets are echoing WAAY’s story yet, but WAAY has explicitly stated that they “stand behind” their story. We do know that two officers have been suspended and, according to Rex Reynolds, the department is investigating “possible policy violations.”

The HPD is right to say little while the investigation is ongoing, but they should make every effort to release preliminary findings as soon as possible. Either WAAY is right or they are wrong - at least with respect to what is being investigated. It shouldn’t take long to simply figure out the nature and scope of the allegations.
