A McCain/Huckabee ticket?
Posted by BrianI’m watching the MSNBC Republican debate and they ran a neat little gimmick where the candidates asked each other questions. Good chance to really hammer your adversary with a difficult question, right? Well, McCain asked Huckabee a question about the FairTax. He set up his question by praising the broad grassroots support, mentioning that he always sees a FairTax supporter in town hall meetings. Then he tossed a total softball question about the impact on the poor - one that he had to know that Huckabee would knock out of the park based on his strong knowledge of the topic.
Huckabee handled the question with particular aplomb. I was surprised that McCain didn’t phrase the question differently or ask one on a more difficult topic for Huckabee. The exchange made me wonder if this was a public overture to Huckabee given McCain’s recent poll surge. Could we see a McCain/Huckabee ticket if McCain wins the nomination?
The talk show circuit would probably blow a gasket, but it is an intriguing prospect. McCain is the war hero who can own the national defense vote. Huckabee is the consummate campaigner who can bring in the social conservatives. Would McCain adopt the FairTax to lure in Huckabee and diffuse criticism of his vote on the Bush tax cut much like Huckabee did to offset his record as a tax hiker?
Or maybe I’m reading too much into the question…

I think you’re probably correct. I hope that the population wakes up to the fact that HUCKABEE is the best candidate with the best tax plan! and a powerful personality that is capturing the imagination of the electorate. This man has single-handedly causing us (well, those of us not full of ourselves with smug disdain for traditional values) to understand afresh the importance of moral underpinnings to beliefs and practices. Gov. Huckabee for president. FairTax for America (and the world).

From some of the earliest debates Huckabee has been singing the praises of McCain. Between Iowa and New Hampshire it seemed they were united in slowing Romney and careful to not split the vote and give him a win. At the least these two are promoting a postitive Republican agenda that any of the five can run against the Democrats with.

im a hugh 2nd ammendment supporter, and i personally vote preety much on that issue only, but i vote, and vote in every election,
i origionally loved the idea of a huckabee mccain ticket,
but i think that we will see a mccain/huckabee, and huckabee running in 2012
both support the constitution, “as written” so they will be getting my vote,
guiliani, is a gun grabbing liberal hiding in conservative overalls, same as romney,, so if you beleive in this county and the bill of rights on which it was founded, ya, gotta vote mccain/huckabee
