Bob Long is a Republican candidate for Madison County Commission, District 1.  Long opposes the proposed half cent county wide sales tax.

Taxes

My main goal as county commissioner is to NOT raise the taxes of our hard-working residents, but to improve the growth in our district so that increased funding can be spent on roads, schools, and infrastructure. I will also work hard to push the state government in conjunction with the Governor to ‘roll-back’ the annual property tax appraisal.

Roads and Schools

I will work hard to lobby the state and federal government to provide additional funding for our roads. For years we have had to listen to excuse after excuse why Winchester Road, as well as many other roads within our district, have not been widened. We have some of the most dangerous roads in the state, this is unconscionable and I will make it a top priority when elected.

I will work to eliminate the use of portables (trailers) within our district. I will work with the school board and county leaders to find new funding for school expansion projects ‘bricks and mortar’ for our current schools and lay out a strategy for future schools to be added to accommodate our districts increased growth.

Immigration

I will work to ensure jobs in this district are for legal citizens, I will push the state congress to pass the comprehensive illegal immigration bill - Alabama Taxpayer & Citizen Protection Act of 2008. I also plan to reject business licenses and support fines on those companies that fail to verify immigration status of their employees - We need to protect our economy and our legal labor force.
