From the Huntsville Times:

With the fall cold front came the news Tueday that Gov. Bob Riley wouldn’t call the Alabama Legislature into special session this autumn. The reason? Riley concluded that the lawmakers wouldn’t get anything done.

He’s on target. They wouldn’t have. So he was right in not calling the session.

I found this a little interesting (not surprising, just interesting):

Legislators supporting the return to four-year appraisals don’t have the votes. The main reason is the influence of the Alabama Education Association, which wants to keep the higher tax payments flowing to local school systems.
