Throwing more money in the pit

Just when you think the financial disaster disguised as a half built jail near the intersection of I-565 and Memorial Parkway in Huntsville can’t get any worse…

It does.

[C]ostly cooling and heating equipment that sat idle from construction delays may be declared surplus and sold at auction. Two dozen never-used heat pumps, ranging from a 3-ton packaged unit to a 20-ton packaged unitary heat pump, are among the items that city project leaders have deemed unusable.

A resolution authorizing the auctioning of the heat pumps was pulled from Thursday’s agenda until invoices could be researched to determine their worth. Pat Hair, manager of the city’s Facilities and Fleet Management Office, said the heat pumps cost well over $100,000.

Oops.  That came up at the same city council meeting where they had to take on an additional $30+ million in debt to try to finish the ill fated project.
