From AL.com:

The Limestone County school system has been removed from a 36-year-old federal court desegregation order, giving school officials the freedom to change school district lines, build schools or consolidate schools.

A federal judge on June 20 dismissed the Limestone County Board of Education from a 1971 court order after the U.S. Justice Department and the board filed a consent order that the school system no longer operated a dual school system for blacks and whites, board attorney Byrd Latham announced at Tuesday night’s board meeting.

Huntsville city schools remain under the burden of such a court order.  Personally, I think the administration likes having it because they get to use it as an excuse for all their boneheaded decisions.
