If the HSV Times won’t run my letter to the editor
Posted by Brian… then I’ll just publish it here. I wrote the letter below after reading a letter by Bert Sanders in which he called Ron Paul a “wild-eyed liberal.” I disagree. I e-mailed my letter to the Huntsville Times on 8/11 and they still haven’t published it, so I’ve given up hope. Here it is:
Related content:Elbert “Bert” Sanders recently stated in a letter to the editor that Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul was a “wild-eyed liberal.” Let’s take a look at that claim and see if it holds water. Congressman Paul has never voted for any tax increase and has been the highest ranking taxpayer’s friend numerous times according to the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union. Dr. Paul, an OB/GYN doctor in his private life, is staunchly anti abortion – more so than the leading GOP presidential candidates. He proudly states that in his 40 years of medical practice he has delivered over 4,000 babies and never once even considered performing an abortion nor did he ever believe that an abortion was necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman. Paul is pro gun rights and has introduced legislation to restore our second amendment rights that Congress has been eroding for years. Ron Paul opposes the use of eminent domain and believes that private property rights are the foundation to all rights in a free society. Congressman Paul has been one of the strongest supporters of interpreting our Constitution in the manner that the Founders intended and he has based every vote he has cast on its Constitutionality. If Ron Paul is a wild-eyed liberal then I’d like to see what Mr. Sanders considers conservative. Ron Paul is America’s choice for a reliable, pro-freedom President. You can learn more about him at RonPaul2008.com.

Great letter. I will look for it in the Times.

Brian said “he has based every vote he has cast on its Constitutionality”
And he can explain why or why not the constitution supported a yes vote. Name me one other rep who can actually do that or who even makes the attempt.

As you know, I think Rep. Paul is wrong on Iraq (with some discussion of how and why). But that don’t make him a liberal. Mr. Sanders (is he GOP?) mischaracterized Paul’s ideology, and that kind of attack hurts the GOP (Reagan’s Rule applies). I’d rather have Paul on my side.
That said, some of the Kos Kult have cheered Paul’s anti-war stance - for their own purposes.

All - I contacted the Times to find out why my letter wasn’t published. They said they never received my e-mail and that they will get it in the paper later this week.
Reactionary - I wrote the letter out of growing frustration with how many in the GOP have been flat out mischaracterizing Paul’s beliefs, knowingly or not. If you (rhetorical you) don’t like his foreign policy then say so and provide rationale. It is just fine to disagree, but don’t make things up. I admit that some of Paul’s supporters are not people I typically associate with, but the fact that he attracts a diverse base of support doesn’t make him a liberal. I personally think that the 9/11 troofer idiots who support him do his candidacy harm by spouting their foolishness in the same sentence with his name.

Brian, good for you for pressuring the paper! I’m convinced that the majority of MSM in this country (and that may include the Huntsville Times) is influenced, if not controlled, by the Council on Foreign Relations which wants the public to elect one of its candidates, and that absolutely does not include Ron Paul. It seems like, to contort a well-known phrase, “A vast one-world order conspiracy” to me. Applying pressure to media and publicizing it on the still free medium of the internet may help change things.

Brian, I sent a similar letter to them last Friday. Check your email for my letter. I’ve not heard from them. I wonder if they will publish either of them.

Dale Jackson was dismissing Paul this morning. They hate him. Matt Murphy and Lee Davis used to cut off anyone who mentioned Paul.

I tried calling Dale’s show last time I heard him bad mouthing Paul, but while on hold someone more important (Rex Reynolds) called in and I had to wait longer than I was able to. Call him and keep him honest.

What happened to WIll Anderson?

WVNN and Will Anderson decided to go in a different direction.

Well, I was no big fan of Will but listening to Fred is like eating cold, unbuttered toast.

Wayne, I agree. Fred’s morning show caused me to start listening to NPR.
