Actually Rudy, that is the opposite of freedom
Posted by BrianCheck out this quote from Rudy Giuliani:
What we don’t see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.
While there is a very small nugget of truth in what Rudy said his description of freedom might be more fitting in red China than in the USA. It is quite sad that this is the best man, according to the polls, that the Republicans have found - so far.
A free society is built upon the rule of law. There must be a government that operates a just legal system for both civil and criminal purposes. There must be accompanying legal protections to prevent you from in any way restricting or preventing my right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of my happiness. So sure, we all have to cede to lawful authority in that regard, but other than that we are (or at least should be) free to do anything we want and be anything we can be. You don’t have the freedom to kill me or take my property.
At its core freedom isn’t about submission and authority. It’s about opportunity and choice.

“Freedom is about authority.” My God, you can’t get more Orwellian than that, can you.
Speaking of God, this has the flavor of a sermon somehow. One of those sermons about submitting to Him utterly, and only in perfect submission can we find perfect love, b/c Jesus’ submission was perfect, etc. Hmmmm.

Seems like a small contradiction, doesn’t it?
