The economy is horrible
Or so you might be led to believe after watching last nights AFL-CIO Democratic Presidential Forum. The Dems were in rare form for the crowd of labor faithful – deriding the economy and proclaiming numerous job programs they would create if they were elected president. But have they bothered to look at the economy?
Unemployment actually went up a tick in July and now sits at 4.6%, which is still in the realm of full employment (depending on which economist you’re talking to). Personal incomes in metro areas in America went up an average of 6.6% last year. The Huntsville area enjoyed an increase of 7.7%. Oh, but the economy is terrible – we need new government programs to employ people!
I only watched the first hour of the forum. That was about all I could handle before my blood literally boiled. Hearing Democrats slam the very economic system that made this country great was just more than I could bear. John Edwards bragging about how he would not be a friend of corporations was probably the worst. Does he understand that they are the ones employing Americans – including the ones sitting in his audience?
