From the AP:

Sen. David Vitter, R-Louisiana, apologized Monday night for “a very serious sin in my past” after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called “D.C. Madam.”

Vitter’s spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement in an e-mail sent to The Associated Press.

The statement containing Vitter’s apology said his telephone number was on old phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates before he ran for the Senate.

His Wikipedia entry states that he was an outspoken advocate of amending our U.S. Constitution to ban same sex marriages.  I’m sure he foists up his religion as his rationale.  I guess sins of the flesh with, presumably, people of the opposite sex are just fine though.  Who knows, maybe he even supports legalized prostitution?

According to this article the “D.C Madam” has posted all of her phone records on her website, but her servers appear to be over loaded at the moment.

Update (7/10/07 @ 6:04 AM):  Check out what Vitter’s wife had to say after Slick Willie’s affair:

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

If I was Senator Vitter I would be running, not walking.

It turns out that this isn’t the first time that the venerable senator has been associated with the oldest profession.

[In 2002] Vitter was forced to publicly address allegations that he had visited a New Orleans bordello, according to the Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, La. He denied the charge, calling it “a rumor and attack campaign” led by enemies to destroy his character and name.
