Siegelman and Scrushy off to the Big House

2007 June 28

From AL.com:

Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison and former HealthSouth CEO got nearly seven years Thursday and both were immediately taken into custody on their bribery convictions.

The judge denied defense pleas to let them remain free on appeal.

I think this is a reasonable sentence.  I have no tolerance for any elected official or high ranking non-elected official betraying the public trust regardless of party affiliation.  The people lose when corruption exists.  I hope this sentence sends the appropriate message not only to Siegelman (and Scrushy), but to all public servants.
