Click here to read an editorial by Brandt Ayers, the publisher of the Anniston Star, which calls for the Fairness Doctrine to be brought back.  Mr. Ayers is upset that there are people broadcasting on the radio that blur the lines between entertainment and news.  He thinks that the government should lord over what is broadcast and determine what is appropriate.  Isn’t that how they operate in Russia?  That’s working out really well.

Contrary to Mr. Ayers’ assertions, there is a place to get actual news (and entertainment too!) on the radio - it’s called NPR.  He didn’t mention that listeners currently have the choice to listen to programs like Morning Edition on NPR or the nationally syndicated Rush Limbaugh show.  He did point out that Rush Limbaugh makes mistakes (lies?) on his broadcast.  Good thing that our reputable newspapers never make a mistake!
