According to Danny, Rep. Patricia Todd’s bill that would raise the minimum wage in Alabama to $7.25 is likely going to stall in committee.  Good.  The government shouldn’t be meddling in the wage that a willing worker and willing employer agree upon.

To realize the absurdity of a minimum wage law think about this.  If you want to volunteer and offer your labor for free you’re allowed to do so.  You can give away 40 hours (or more) of labor a week and the government says that is just fine.  But, let’s say you wanted to get a couple of dollars an hour from the place you have been volunteering to help defray costs you incur.  Nope, the government says.  You must either give it away or the business/charity must pay you a minimum wage.  It is an affront on your FREEDOM to choose where and how you sell your primary commodity: your labor.
