Not that this is terribly surprising, but Ted Kennedy said the following:

“How many more billions of dollars do we have to give you, Mr. Republican?” the Massachusetts Democrat shouted. “How many more dollars do we have to give you to get an increase in the minimum wage? It is shocking. It is disgraceful.”

What Kennedy is referring to is lower taxes, which is a way of allowing you to keep more of what you earn.  If a pickpocket passes you on the street and does not take your wallet he has not given you anything, he has merely not taken from you.  Same principle here.  Kennedy’s position highlights one of my fundamental problems with socialists - they act as though everything belongs to the government and they, through their benevolence, determine who gets what.

Senate Republicans called out Kennedy on a bit of fiscal hypocrisy:

Senate Republicans were quick to note that the $8.3 billion in tax cuts for small businesses nationwide is less than the $8.5 billion federal funding cap placed on Boston’s Big Dig highway project. Mr. Kennedy has been the principal sponsor of the project, which has been riddled with corruption, cost overruns, delays and safety woes.
