The calls for socialized medicine have begun
Posted by BrianAnd the Dems haven’t even been sworn in yet!
For those of you who are fans of socialized medicine (I am not), you’ll like this article. It is very well written and makes a largely compelling case.
I don’t have time to parse the article now, but one statement in particular jumped out at me:
It’s a given that the government will be forced to take over health care. Just about every doctor I’ve ever questioned on the subject has said so, even though one consequence may be that doctors will lose income by becoming salaried employees rather than fee-for-service entrepreneurs.
If income decreases for medical professionals, then what will be the effect on quality? Smart, talented people who may choose to become doctors now due in part to the financial reward will seek out other occupations in the private sector where they can receive compensation in line with their capabilities. The doctors willing to take a pay cut and work for the government will be less qualified overall.
I’m sure this issue will be moved towards the front burner after the Dems are sworn in, so I’ll keep my eyes open for pertinent news items.
