If you’ve seen The Birdcage, one of the funniest movies there is, then you probably remember the hilarious situation involving Senator Jackson, one of the co-founders of “The Coalition for Moral Order.”  Jackson dies in the bed of an underage, black prostitute - not a good thing for a leader of a socially conservative organization.  His last words were, “Your money’s on the dresser, Chocolate.”  The circumstances of Jackson’s death are amusing because of his egregious hypocrisy.

Well, today the president of the National Association of Evangelicals, Rev. Ted Haggard, was accused of having drug fueled sex with a male prostitute for three years.  Haggard is, of course, a staunch opponent of gay marriage.  He has resigned his post with the NAE and gave up his position as leader of the 14,000 member New Life Church.

Haggard denied some, but not all, of the allegations in one of the dumbest statements since Bill Clinton said he “didn’t inhale.”

Evangelist Ted Haggard admitted Friday that he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a gay prostitute who claims he was paid for drug-fueled trysts by the outspoken gay marriage opponent.

Talking to reporters outside his house Friday, Haggard denied the sex allegations but said that he did buy meth from the man because he was curious.

I bought it for myself but never used it,” he said. “I was tempted, but I never used it.”

People in America are incredibly forgiving, but not when confronted with stupid claims like that.  If he at least admitted to the drug use I might believe him.

Haggard, by the way, has been married since 1978 and has five children.
