Following Huntsville’s attempted annexation across the Tennessee River has been somewhat amusing.  The City Council is set to approve the measure at the next regular meeting.  Morgan County Commissioner Stacey Lee George has proven to be quite an outspoken and seemingly deranged opponent.  Of course this is the same man who once told the sheriff that Daffy Duck could do a better job than him.

Morgan County Commissioner Stacy George said Thursday night he will urge his fellow county commissioners to fight Huntsville’s attempts to expand its city boundaries into Morgan County by using the Tennessee River as a pathway to grab land on the other side.

“If they approve it (annexation), I’ll try to make a move to challenge what’s contiguous,” George told The Times.

George blasted Huntsville officials for not explaining the city’s intentions to Morgan County officials.

“I think it’s poor for Huntsville to do that,” he said. “We haven’t had any calls or visit from anyone.”

City Planner Dallas Fanning responded he didn’t realize Morgan County commissioners felt they were owed an explanation.

“If they want us to do it, they can ask and we’ll do it,” he said. Fanning said several other landowners in the Lacey’s Spring area have contacted him about adding their property to the city limits.

Fanning: Stop crying and tell me what’s wrong.

It sounds a lot like how I have to talk to my two year old when she is crying for an unknown reason.
