Week 1 Record: 5-2 (4-3 straight up)

Thoughts:

I’ll start with Auburn.  I think they should be very happy right now.  The game was won by Tuberville’s game plan.  He knew that AU had superior athletes and depth so he just patiently pounded the Cougars until they broke.  They only struggled with two areas on Saturday: tackling and finishing on offense.  Muschamp should be able to fix the tackling problem in practice.  I’m thinking that the problems finishing off drives can be attributed to early season rustiness.  They look like the real deal.

Everyone who whined about Will Herring moving to linebacker and still being an SEC first teamer can sit down and shut up now.  He looked like a natural - a very talented natral.

Speaking of real deal, Tennessee just made the SEC East look a lot more exciting.  I didn’t get to watch the game, but judging by the score they took Cal to the woodshed.

I’m interested to hear from the Bammers who watched their game.  Is there cause for concern or did Shula put the team in cruise control too early?  They should have beaten the Rainbows Warriors by more than two touchdowns.

I’m not the fashion police, but did anyone notice the stupid hat Holly Rowe was wearing at the FSU-Miami game?

Notre Dame will lose this season.  Probably one of their next two (Penn St. & Michigan) and almost definitely their last game (USC).  USC, by the way, only embarrassed Arkansas slightly less than last year.

Is it just me or has ESPN’s College Gameday become almost unbearable to watch?  It seems like a soap opera with all the personal interest stories.  Also, I can live without the goofy football drills on the Home Depot field with Corso and Ismail walking around with a football.  What’s the deal with having flags from just about every damn school in the country in the crowd?  They were in ATL and I saw flags from Wash. St. and all kinds of SEC teams.  If you are a fan of (fill in the blank) then you should be at your team’s game, not in some other city standing around with a flag.  Maybe Gameday has jumped the shark.

There are two new quarterbacks with great names.  Colt McCoy is the new gunslinger for the Texas Longhorns.  Highly paid screenwriters in Hollywood couldn’t have come up with a better name.  USC’s new QB is John David Booty - which I’m sure he’ll get a lot of being the star QB in sunny southern California.

FSU and Miami always field REALLY fast players.  If you like to see speedy, hard hitting defenses then this is the game to watch.  If you like to see scoring you’ll probably see more in the average American League game.

UPDATE:

I had to adjust my record - I initially shorted myself a couple of wins.
