I hate Wal-Mart.  Their service is abysmal.  Wal-Mart is the closest retail merchant of any kind to my house, but my wife and I drive past it to shop at Publix or Target because it is just a more pleasant experience.  That said, my personal disdain for Wal-Mart pales in comparison to the disdain the left has.

The latest Wal-Mart attacker is Delaware’s own Joe Biden.  While in Iowa (think 2008) Biden said the following:

“My problem with Wal-Mart is that I don’t see any indication that they care about the fate of middle-class people.  They talk about paying them $10 an hour. That’s true. How can you live a middle-class life on that?”

Mr. Biden should know better than to say something stupid like that.  First and foremost, no one is holding a gun to the heads of employees and forcing them to work there for such pay.  The people who Wal-Mart is paying $10 an hour are only worth $10 an hour.  Sounds cold, but the plain truth is that every employee has a fair market value, myself included.  If those people are worth more than $10 an hour then they should seek employment elsewhere.  If they can’t find a better paying job then they just need to get comfortable with the fact that they are worth $10 an hour.

What is more sinister about Biden’s comments is the reference to the middle class.  The left has squeezed down the middle class to such a small income range that very few people fit their definition of middle class.  It’s a great political ploy because it makes them look noble.  The downside is that their definition of rich stretches way down into income levels that look very middle class when viewed from Main Street.  And we know what the left wants to do to “rich” people.  (Hint: tax them to death)
