FairTax Finds Support in Scottsboro, AL

Over the weekend I went to Scottsboro, AL with a group of FairTax supporters for a petition drive at the First Monday Trade Days on the Jackson County Courthouse square.  It was a pretty sparse crowd due to the Worlds Longest Yardsale, which pulled away both vendors and shoppers, and the oppressive August heat.

Despite the low turnout, we were very successful – about 135 people signed a petition asking their congressman and senators to abolish the IRS and the income tax and implement the FairTax.  What is more impressive than the total number of new names is that about 40% of people we talked to signed our petition.  Many more expressed support, but wanted to research the legislation before signing a petition.  People realize that the current system is broken and is beyond repair.  We need fundamental tax reform that only the FairTax can provide.

Events like this are only possible with dedicated, informed, and enthusiastic volunteers.  The Huntsville area has a great cadre of supporters who sacrifice both time and money to educate others about the FairTax.  Many thanks to those who helped out.
