According to one prospective governor of Massachusetts government schools reinforce the values of home. How quaint. I hope what he meant to say is that government schools reinforce whatever values government deems appropriate regardless of your family's personal views and faith.

This op-ed piece in the Boston Globe really makes me happy I don't have children in the MA public schools.

What we need in this country is unadulterated school choice. Not just a voucher program. A voucher program without strings. If the government is going to tax us to the tune of $10,000 per student then that money should be available to each and every family so that they may select the school of their choice.

The standards on what is and is not a qualifying school obviously should not be set low, but rather the parents should have significant leeway in determining the direction of their children's education. If a family wants to send their child to a religious indoctrination academy that's just fine. If another family wants to send their child to a wholly secular school focusing on capitalist principles that's OK too.

And families should be free to supplement the government handout in order to get the highest quality possible education possible. This notion will undoubtedly evoke loud shrieks from liberals.

The education system we have now is badly broken. Let the free market heal it's wounds.
