As the dreaded Tax Day fast approaches the predictable tax "refund" articles are popping up. Here's one from my hometown Huntsville Times. Most of these articles pay very slight lip service to the fact that getting a "refund" actually means that you just gave the government an interest free loan. Congratulations!

If you think getting a refund is such a great thing then I request you allow me to withhold some portion of your paycheck every payday. After a whole year of this I will give you all of your money back. Sounds like great deal, huh? I will deposit the money you give me in an interest bearing account for safe keeping. I'll keep the interest, of course.

Does your "refund" still sound like such a great idea? Another reason to support the FairTax.
